Thanx Lawsy but that didnt exactly solve the problem,NO Porche adaptors available down here, but sure gave some peace of mind!! Can anyone then tell me what the guys use to fit The 5spoke VR6 wheels on a mk1??? I saw some guys here in S.A. with it... Isit the same PCD as the Benz rim?? PLEASE HELP

Ok so i did some research… the PCD of the merc wheel is 5X112. What can i use to make this work??Cant do porche adaptors, they not available down here and probly cost an arm!!The Caravelle, Passat 96, Transporter uses the same PCD far as i know?? Could the hubs perhaps be fitted on the mk1??? Or what can i use to fit on the mk1 with the 5X112 PCD??

  PLEASE HELP

As I understand things, the 4th stud (of the 4 stud, as the adapter screws into the hub) is a specially machined bolt with a wide head and a female thread in it (offset to its own bolt thread). So you'd be unable to torque up the 4th bolt to its proper value, ie it would be slightly looser than the others, and this would place slightly more strain on the other 3. Not a massive issue, but definintely an engineering compromise and a weakness which MIGHT result in a failure later on. You could look at it another way - how come car manufacturers don't use adapters?

The other alternative would be to have the hub's original threads filled in (welded up) then redrilled and tapped for your wheels. This is an engineering task for a shop, albeit not too complicated, but beyond the scope of the home mechanic unless they can apply the proper heat treatment during/after welding then measure, align, drill and tap the holes to the required accuracy.

I really need some adaptor help lol Maybe i should ask the adaptorman to make me some, if only i lived anwhere NeAr you guys

You'd not be able to screw it in becuase the face of the hub isn't flat, it has the central support. Hence the problem stud needs to be screwed in-out as in the existing adapter design.

Adaptorman doesn't have the necessary equipment as far as I can see? Needs an oil bath and a lathe (both common items in an engineering shop).

i UNDERSTAND YOUR POINT!! DONT WANT MY WHEELS FALLING OFF INTHE DRIVE!!! I think your 2nd option is my best bet Paul… Take it to the pro's, pay the money, put it on(and my wheels) and enjoy the ride!!!

But how safe is this really?

Welding then redrilling would be as safe/safer than stock, so long as the heat treatment process needed is understood and done properly.

IIRC adapterman had the same issue - fitting 5 stud wheels - I'm not sure how he overcame it in the end - anyone know?
