MK 1 GL AUTOMATIC

I'm in the process of purchasing a mk1 GL automatic.. i've never owned an automatic but been told automatics in older cars can be problematic…. is anyone was aware of any problems with this model?

There's no problems with the auto box used in a Mk1.

Beware, the starter motor is different, and is in a different place (the other side of the engine). As well as being a pain to change (or hit the solenoid) if needs be, it can get heatsoak off the exhaust. And of course….you can't do without a starter motor on an auto.

Also its only 3 speeds but I found the ratios fine in day-to-day use including long motorway runs.

usually all they need is an oil change if its not been done for a while, its always the 1st thing to do when diagnosing auto faults
