mad shakes at speed...
Sup guys
Im drawing a blank as to why the mk1 shakes madly when at speed. Front wheels are balanced but not sure what else it could be?
Any ideas?
Cheers

Check the bottom ball joint on end of wishbones.
Make sure the 3 10mm nuts are tight and not loose as this would cause the hub to have movement leading to wheel wobble

Have you had the rear wheels balanced? What speed does the shaking start at?
I no longer have the Mk1!! I now whizz round in a Black 1990 3dr Mk2 GTi 8v but the roof doesn't fold back when the sun shines

swap front and rear wheels to see if that helps
also jack the front up and put it solidly on axle stands and stick it in gear so that the wheels spin up a little, then you can watch them and see if anything is amiss, one of my tyres had a flat spot in which was well noticeable when the wheel was spinning, thats the trouble with not using the car for five odd years ;-)

tracking/4 wheel alignment, bent hub, knackered suspension or top mount.
