Loud noise that disappears when turning right slightly...

My 1990 clipper has become really loud when driving.  To me it sounds like wheel bearings - it is definitely wheel speed related with it really becoming loud at around 25mph building upto a really loud dull whine/hum at 60.  It's loud enough to not be able to talk to passengers now  :|
But the weird thing is it disappears totally if you are going around a right hand bend where you turn the steering wheel approx 30degrees.  There is no play or roughness when the car is jacked up on any wheels.  The front wheels were hard to turn so I stripped the calipers and it was very slightly better for a few miles but back to normal now.  The car is lowered quite a lot and it has always scrubbed the inside edge of tyres off.
Any guesses? I have front wheel bearings sitting in the garage so I was going to change them but I'm so busy at the moment with work that I only really have one chance to sort it - should I stick CV joints on at the same time?
Any tips or tricks on diagnosing are welcome!

hi mate,

defo sounds like a wheel bearing to me i bought cheap ones off ebay and had the same problem. No play when i jacked it up tho. CV joint usually a clonking at low speeds turning. Mines on its bum too so im sure my new FAG bearings will have a short life.

Get them fitted (providing they good quality) and go from there

cheers
Dale
