Lhd to rhd steering question

Hay,
I'm thinging of converting my lhd to rhd while I'm getting it restored.
My question is after I move the pedal box and steering wheel etc Over to the rhs.
Where the nuckle comes trough the bulk head ,do I simply turn the steering rack 180 degrees in the engine bay and reconnect to the hubs .
Not sure what the proper names is on half the bits in the engine bay so please bare with me.
Thanks in advance

no you need RHD specific rack, and pedal box, and column tube, and also you need the rhd brake bar, servo, linkage etc

There's a fair few differences to the bulkhead too, you'll need to create a number of holes on the right hand side and block off similar ones on the left. And, the dashboard too. Then little extras such as RHD headlights, possibly you might need a mph speedo too?

Hay,
I'm ok with getting the holes welded and cutting new ones etc but what's different about the pedal box ,rack etc.its a diesel so does all mk1 in rhd have the brake bar ?
The dash I have and the car has been in here for 15 years so I reckon the lights are done at this stage.

they're different shapes to fit, the car is not symmetrical unfortunately. all servo equipped mk1s have the brake bar, the ones without a servo dont but i suspect you would rater have the servo assistance! servo have been made to fit but it takes some work, there isnt a lot of room there

afaik all mk1 will fit? im not so up on the really early ones though. not sure if the early dash differs around this area as well, im more of a mk2 man really.

are you going to be doing the welding yourself? it might be worth having a look at your old bits, if you are a good fabricator you might be able to make all the old stuff fit ok, tho obviously this wont work on a steering rack

You seem to now more about them than your letting on.

No I'm not going to do the welding but I will be stripping the car and reasembling most of it myself.
Cleaning all the nasty stuff myself etc .

I don't have a mig welder and no sheet metal experience at all ,I'd be afraid I'd muck it up.
I'd prob worp the hole car out of shape.

I getting lights sorted in my shed and the strip down will kick in after that.
I'll put up a  tread when i start it.
Itsnvery rusty in the scuttle bay.

if its quite rusty up in the tray area then it may be worth modding the parts, as it'll need cutting and welding anyway. but as i say im not sure exactly how different the stuff is so you might find you have to buy yourself a rusty donor to rob for spares :(

I'm based in cork ,Ireland.

I'll have lights and all that jazz in the next 2 weeks and the strip down will start.
I'll get all the pics etc up.
It's going to be a very big job.
I was thinking of making a turn style lift . I'll prob buy one of those mini sand blasting kits and do that first and them prime it myself .
Let the panel beater cut out the rust and do the panel work.
I have chrome bumpers, wing mirrors, qrt opening windows, old series 1 gti wheel and a set of scalla mk1 rims or steels with chrome vw hub caps.all the chrome trim for windows .
I'm stuck getting a the dash and was hoping to get the old black and white seats with no headrests or just get old gti seats and retrim in series 1 gti fabric.
Not sure what to do there.I'm going painting her original pea green.
That's the plan anyway.

You mean leave it lhd or leave the stock interior ?

I'd be interested in peoples opions of lhd or rhd ,I'm just afraid I'll spend all the time and mula on it and because its lhd no one will ever want it.
