Knocking noise

Post

Hey up, as the title says i've got a knocking noise on my golf. I think maybe its the driveshaft, it seems to be coming from that area. Like around the driver side front wheel. It stops when i accelerate or press brake. The slower i'm going the slower the knocking, like its something going around.

Thanks in advance,

Dave.

Wheel bearings?

Oh yea could be, i thought that wheel bearings hummed rather then knocked. Maybe they're completely buggered though, so they've gone past the hum stage.

I am getting the same nocking noise from mine, although i have not had any grinding noise and there seems to be no play in the bearings.

Yea i got it sorted yesterday, had car up in air got wheel off and found that the bolt that holds the disc had snapped. Drilled it out and put a new one in and the knock has gone :-). That's one thing off the list, gotta reseal gearbox and fit new rocker, head and manifold gaskets now.

Thats good to hear, was that the crossed hair scew on the front of the disc as mine are missing on both sides and just thought the road wheels would hold the disc in place.

Sorry about the late reply, been having internet problems. Yea Andy, that's the one. The cross head holding the disc. Yea the wheel nuts would hold the disc on, i think my disc screw sheared because my wheel nuts weren't tightened fully. I had some work done by one of mechanics at my work and they must have forgot to tighten them up.
