knocking noise when not accelerating

I've got a clear loud knocking noise from the front near side, when I lift off..  as soon as I accelerate it goes away..  sounds like something to do with driveshaft area, but I can see nothing obvious..

Any ideas?

Could be the cv joint or possibly the top mount. Probably the cv joint if it happens when you come off the gas...

hhmm  yer CV joint sounds probable, I dont think its the top mount..  has anyone ever known a wheel bearing to knock..  normally they make a whiring noise, but i think mine is knackered..

On 2nd inspection I've noticed that when jacked up, the wheel has a rocking movement, can anyone confirm that this is wheel bearing and not cv joints ?   I've never heard a wheel bearing make a knocking noice though !!!

Hi!
My bearings have knocked when they
were failed. I red your description and
i think its bearing for 95%.

Oh really…  well I suppose its the first thing to change anyhow..  anyone know what size that hub nut is?  I'll have to go and buy a socket that size!

Thanks
