JOM Coilovers trying to bounce me through the roof!

Hi guys,

Just bought some brand new JOM coilovers, and fitted them to my mk1. I have had budget coilovers before like TA technics and other ebay ones etc. and these JOM coilovers are not as nice handling at all! They are rock solid and they arent even lowered right down.

Anyone on here experienced this on their mk1's with JOM's?? do they soften over time? or are all JOM coilovers as poop as mine?

Let me know what you think!

Never had JOM ones but had raceland and they felt like my spine was going to me smashed  over any bump bigger than a pea!

Budget coils seen a bit hit and miss really!

Mates got jom on a polo, same mate stiff as hell. Budgets aren't ever 'comfy' are they?

Thing is some of the reviews say they are good and not too harsh. And my other budget ones were never as harsh as these… my TA technics ones were actually pretty nice compared to this. I've got a sore neck just from driving to the shops!

Anyone else with JOM experience? will they soften up with use? or is this it…

I had joms on my mk4 rears wound all the way down and fronts half way on 18's and they were fine it was a good drive.
Over time they settle and feel softer as I found out when I had to wind them up some more after about a month.

Maybe it's because the mk1 is so light then and it doesn't compress the springs properly?? Hopefully they will soften up soon as otherwise they'll go in the bin! Or I'll be visiting a physio with back/ neck problems haha.

I also had a slammed Corrado that killed my back! So I'm sticking to genuine suspension! For now.
Hope you get the result you want.

Just fitted some hot tuning TA technics i got new from their ebay page, rides nice and forgivving, bit firmer than my lowering springs but at the price of 180 quid delivered, cant grumble, theyre well worth the money, just hope the rubbers last plenty long enough, might be worth a try mate if you can?

Correct :) Cheap suspension just hasn't had the same development put into their materials/design as the better named brands.  Its the same whether they be coilovers, shock/springs sets, or springs on their own. If they're cheap, they won't be comfy and they won't handle great…

i've got a set of JOM's on my mk1 cabby. Wound them pretty down just enough to fit a finger between the arch and the wheel and the ride is not too bad.

I think they have softened over time, but then again I might have gotten used to them?

I did wind them back up a month or so ago and the ride was softer, but its not too bad.

from what I gather, most of these cheap kits have the same origination.

Mine (hot tuning) are a mare when the car has been stood a few weeks, once run a day or to they get better.

End of the day, you get what you pay for!

Projekt Frustration :

White 1991 Clipper. Lowered over polished zender rims, Single 40 dellorto on lynx manifold, kent cam, full stainless 'zorst / manifold, powerflex bushed and braced. Not the fastest car, but sounds super nice!

Still going after 12 years… never said it was a quick fix! Time is not my friend.

I'm with Chris H,

I bought Hot Tuning ones and was under the impression they came out the same factory as JOM and Racelands etc.

They do soften up as the day goes on.

Unless of course, I'm adjusting my driving to suit?

Corners are much better now and can even put the power down through the corners which I couldn't do before.

I suggest giving them a couple of weeks, maybe raise them a touch too?
