is there anyway of telling what flanges are on my cabby box

g/box on my 90 cabby gti gave up the ghost on saturday

so am looking to get a 16v box as i'm going to 9a it in the future.

is there a way of telling, ie they came in cabbies from 19xx onwards etc?? or an easy way of measuring them??
