Ideal Wheel Size/Setup

Hi,

I am looking to put either 14 or 15 inch wheels on my Golf and am unsure on what thickness of tyre is best for the front/back.

I plan on putting an 'odd ball' steel on that is a 15/6 or 14/6.  The rear will be banded but not sure what size I can go to.  Further to that would it be best to leave the front at 6 wide?  The car will be lowered as far as I can comfortably get it and the tucked look is prefered.

Can anybody shred any light on this?

will fit straight in without adjusting on my golf?

I am currently running with stock wheel. 175/70/R13 front, 165/65/R13 rear (from previous owner) steel wheel. nothing modified.

the bolt pattern is ok, but the centre bore is ever so slightly smaller so will need reaming out to fit. or you coudl get some hubcentric vw spacers and have the outer lip machined to fit the mini wheels.

main thing is you need to find out the offset of the wheels so you know how they sit, and if you have any room for spacers

might be stamped on the wheel somewhere, you have xxJ wghich is the diameter (so say 7J for 7" wheels) and ETxx for offset, so ET35 is a 35mm offset. the higher the number the further in towards the shocks they sit, so a 10mm spacer would change the offset of 35mm wheels to 25mm

I should imagine those mini wheels in the link are et45, my pepperpots were et45 and centre bore was about 56.0, I just got a die grinder on em to open it up slightly.

ya its 56.1 on mini, vw is 57.1

so need to machine the center bore?

well.. what about the BBS RS 15" ones?

they seem perfect fit for mk1 but. has 25 offset. don't need any modify to fit those low offset?

yes, the centre bore is too small to fit on a mk1 hub. its only 1mm that needs taking off, im sure a local machine shop wont charge you much to do this. 25 offset is ok on a mk1
