What offset are your cups. If they're the more common ET28 (7x15's) then you are likely to have arch rubbing problems so 45 series tyres are probably best and a set of coilovers will allow you to fine tune the height until you have the look you're after.

I had this issue, got replies from members here and went for standard gti 20mm set from gsf for ?170, Tyres are toyo proxies 195/45/15, car sits lovely, sits a little lower when fully loaded with family, my friend had 195/50/15's before he bought new tyres and noticed that the rear tyres had been rubbing against springs, so went for same as mine

If you invest in a set of coilovers (you can get them for reasonable money now) you will have all the freedom in the world to play with the ride height! Also you can set it up slightly lower at the front, which always look cool! only slightly lower mind!!
