how hard is it to fit five stud wheels?
I've just purchased a Mk1 GTI and I'm looking to put some new wheels on it - how hard is it to fit some five stud porsche wheels? Does it depend on which type of porsche wheel I try to fit?

hi, both my cars a re running 5 stud porsche wheels
Its easy enough whne you get the right adaptors, blot adaptors to hubs an then bolt wheels to adaptors - simples.
Tricky part tho is getting the right sizes, especially the ET..
my passat runs D90 wheels which are ET 52, 6" fronts and 8" rears
To get them to fit and clear both arches and the coilies but still slammed was tricky, the fronts are running 15mm adaptors with short bolts and the rears are running 20mm adaptors, giving them an ET38 and ET33 which clears everything without getting too much poke
My mk1 now runs porsche teledials and they too are ET52, these are running 15mm adaptors front and back, but I'm thinking of swapping the rears to 20mm adaptors to get a better stance - but I've had to raise the car from its previous stance due to them rubbing slightly on the coilies..
Whels liekt he cookie cutters have a real low ET of 23 so even with the slimmest adaptors you'll get them sticking out past the arches
Hope that helps..

Thanks for the response.
I was hoping to fit Fuchs and get the spokes painted the same colour as my car, lhasa green, have you seen it done many times before? I've seen a Mk1 on cookie cutters and it looked pretty good but think I prefer the Fuchs. I've had coilovers fitted at the garage and I'm getting the car delivered next week so I'm in no major rush but want to make sure I get it right first time. Did you just work out the fittings through trial and error or is there a spreadsheet or something that can help?
Thanks again…

it is trial and error tho, getting the rigth adaptors and bolts is tricky
I used machine 7 in coventry for the shorter bolts, they have the right seat for the porsche wheels and because they were 15 adaptors the thread length needed to be no more than 20mm, at ?2.50 (plus VAT) per bolt its not cheap you need 20 of them, plus a few had damaged threads as well plus price of adaptors, your into nearly ?200 before you even think about the wheels
