Help with fitting new hand brake cables

As the title says. I've been having no problems until I went to feed the cable threw to the lever. I can't get a hold of the cable so as to attach it to the lever itself. Could be something obvious and I'm just being thick. I've never changed one before so been learning as I go.

Any ideas?

i attached mine handle end first rather than drum end first to solve this problem mate. easier than pulling against the force of the shoes, dont know if this helps?

Yeah that's the way I'm trying. Where I'm stuck is trying to get the cable up threw the bottom of the lever and to where it attaches.

Do you know what I mean?
