help needed !!!! brakes!!

hi, have a 1600 gti 1981 and decided while doing a full strip of the car to do the brakes, so all new brake pipes , rear drums cyclinders, braided hoses front and rear, mk2 16v servo and a g60 m/c. anyway stripped and painted calipers but found the dust seals knackered so rang vw and ordered the repair kit at a cost of ?35! so waited 2 weeks and they arrived only to find they dont fit completely different, part number is 171 698 471 a, and apparently this is all they list for my car year and model. my original seals part number is 171 615 205 a, and vw said that numder does nt exist.

what i need to know has anyone else had this problem and also what can i do? do i bin those calipers and have to replace with others??

Best bet will be to get some vauxhall calipers and carriers and upgrade to 256mm setup if you are going to do it properly.

Hi Barty2, have you kept the 'wrong' seal kit (171-698-471-A) I'm wondering if it will fit the calipers on my 1992 Mk1 Clipper.

interesting 171 615 205 a is only listed for china and mexico, and was dropped in 2005 without replacement

are they stamped 'VWII'?  if so you can get newunsd from all MK2 GTI 8vs, several MK3 models, Sciroccos etc its a common part. if not you can still fit them but you also need the right MK1 carriers for them, later MK1 GTIs, Roccos and Cabbies have the ones you need.

cheers for that mate but crazyquiff sorted me out with some second hand ones just need to get the brakes working a bit better now lol.
