HELP bolt stuck in gearbox/cv flange

Not even half way on the clutch change an a big problem! 2 bolts stuck in the inner CV joint/gearbox flange so I've stopped before I do any more damage! Any ideas on how to get them out? They are T40 star drive

cheers
Mat

Not sure they're T40 star drive, well at least they're not as standard - they're M8 12 spline.

Easiest thing to do is grind the heads off then remove them with mole grips (will be easy when the tension's off them) once the CVJ is out the way.

A set of Irwin bolt grippers is an essential tool if you have rounded out spline, torx or allen head bolts on your CV`s or pulley`s. In fact I use them first on old ones in preference to rounding them out in the first place. In that way I can re-use the bolts and refit them with the correct tool. They only make  slight scratches which with a file or grinding wheel are dressed off in seconds.

Hammer on if tight and the more you turn the tighter they grip.

WARNING: They are more than capable of stripping heads off bolts if rusty but as Paul says its not too big an issue on CV bolts but if they are rusty then a couple of days liberally dousing in Plusgas (WD40 is not penetrating oil!) should help or a bit of heat with a small plumbers torch.
