heavy steering

changed top mounts ,front struts and track rod ends but steering extremly heavy .dont remember it being this bad on my old mk1 gti. any ideas greatly recieved

Camber, then wheel alignment must be checked / adjusted after changing top mounts etc....

Owning a Mk1 cabby is a vertical learning curve…

plus tyre pressures - try banging the fronts up to 36psi and see if you get a dramatic diff  - then you can adjust back down looking for the balance

Also look at the tyres you actually have on the car. I found a massive difference when I had two brand new tyres on the front of mine. Even though the old ones were inflated correctly, because they were worn they made the steering very heavy, and also pull to one side oddly enough!

Make sure you put all the spacers / washers on correctly when replacing the top mounts.

Yeah i'll second that, make sure you refit the spacers and washers, these were missing on my car and made a huge difference when put them on!
