Having trouble getting gearbox back on engine - help!

Hi,

Would REALLY appreciate some quick advice/answers!

Have started putting a replacement dx engine in my 1.8 gti cabby, and am having serious trouble getting the gearbox fitted to engine. Feels like theres something stopping it from going in?? Are there any special tricks or anything for lining bits up???

Is there a plug in each dowel and no plug in the corresponding one on the other component (engine/box)?

If its just the splines not lining up, then get a longer bolt in one of the bolt holes and turn the engine over with a spanner on the crank, it should 'click' in.

You did align the clutch pressure plate???

Did u try the clutch on the splines first ? Also did you center the clutch , if you done these two should go back together easy ;-)

Thanks for reply :-). We tightened nuts that we should have left loose, but then found out gsf have sold me the wrong damn clutch! Looks like a trip back there tomorrow to have a go at them and hopefully get one that will fit! Grr!
