Have I bought the wrong servo ?

Can anybody answer me please

I have a 1991 GTI and I just bought a new ATE servo from eBay but I it is slightly smaller with 1 digit different on its part number will it still be ok or do I have to resell it ?

Original part no from servo is 172 613 105 J and the new one has a M at the end instead of the J.

The seller had bought it for his 1.6 but never used it and I didn't notice the change in the last letter !!

Will it be ok or not ???

Cheers for any help

Chris

I now think it was for all carb models and not the GTI but  :dontknow:

carb models cabbies were fitted with the same front calipers as GTI's so would have thought the servo's would have been the same

might be wrong tho

Thanks Matt

It does fit, I've not tried the master cylinder but it will be fine .

I think it is a 7" servo rather than a 9" servo BUT it will physically fit but I just am not clued up enough to know if it will do the correct job ?

Randomly the box has 172 612 107B but the sticker on the Servo has 172 612 105M on it?

It measures 8" from outside edge diameter against the 9" from my original gti servo, will it be ok ?

Thanks Rub for your help

172 612 107B is a 7" one, it'll work but its really only for the poverty spec mk1, 8" is the GTI one

Is the measure from outside edge of the actual round servo or is it the very outside edge of the outside rim, if you know what I mean.

The new one is one inch smaller than my gti one.

The actual servo sticker code is different than the boxes code so it was possibly a different servos box ??

Would you put it on or not ?  I am only changing it for the new look as my current servo works fine

Right! its only going to change the feel of the pedal! for the same braking power you will have to push a little harder but not much.. If its a new look your after you can either fit the new one and have less pedal or refurb the one fitted…

Hi, cheers for that, the servo, brake linkage and servo bracket that I have on is all cleaned and hand painted and looks fine and I still have the original servo in my garage, which I have refurbed and  spray painted but it needs another wee rub down and coated again and the brake linkage and servo bracket that I have in the garage are sprayed rather than the hand painted ones on my car so they look better.

I was just after the brand new look of the new servo if I could find one , which I now have found, even though I have a refurbed servo etc on the car and a better refurbed servo etc in my garage.

I think I have lost the plot - 3 bloody servos  :dontknow:

I use a garage to fir the servo etc, so I think I will keep what I have on the car just now and complete the refurb of the original servo and master cylinder and then decide later in the year whether to use the new servo or the refurbed servo along with the sprayed linkage and bracket.

if it was me id only change the servo for a mk2 golf 9" jobber, plus a 22mm master cylinder. you could always throw it on to try wont be hard to swap back if you dont like it. if i managed to swap a mk2 golf gti one without opening the brake lines then you can certainly manage ;)
