Has my clutch gone?

I have an 88 cabby auto converted with a manual caddy gearbox and clutch . (was fitted when I bought the car,so no idea of gearbox age) I was struggling to get 1st and reverse, I adjusted the cable up about as far as it would go and that was fine for a while. Then driving out of my road I heard a thud and the clutch peddle became so loose it would not go into any gear. I have replaced the cable today with no joy………….

Any ideas folks?

Shaun ( the not so happy, money pit of a cabby owner, who seems to always be on here asking for help) Learning though……..

clutch cable snapped, or its gone thru the bulkhead, or the release bearing has cracked. All can be checked/replaced with the engine/box in the car. Basically, you need to check if the clutch lever on the gearbox is still operating normally, or not. How far can you lift it before strong resistance is felt?
