Handbrake cablie in drum

Hi,
I bought a brake drum kit, included was shoes, bearings, drums, cylinders and handbrake cables. i'v jst built the back plate up with shoe etc, and bolted through stub axel to trailing arm, all good.. then i popped my handrake cable into the drum which seem's to be too long..?? does the spring compress up when the handbrakes tensioned or something, i was woried about wrong parts supplied but everything else fit..
Thanx Shaun

Yeah the spring will have none or little tension. When applied it will tension so thats fine

Once you connected it to the handbrake lever in the car there should be no slack in the cable. In my case the spring even tends to pop down away from the retainer clip on the backplate.
Have you compared the old and new cable to check for differences?

No thats not. The metal part of the cable were black meets silver should but up to the back plate. Is there any retaining clips missing which should hold the cable in place

hi briand,
My old cable's went along time ago..  dint know weather thats what happend.. it all pulled taught once conected. :dontknow:
Jst had a poke and when i push the silver upto the black it does belly down like u say. GSF only do the one cable so am gonna run with it. :D

Yea, offering the cable up there does look like a braket missing off the trailing arm. Was thinking of jst strapping round it with a big jubilee clip, what do u reckon..??
Than Shaun
