GX 1.5 5 SPEED GEAR BOX

are all mk1 5 speed gear boxes the same ? my gear box has done 100000 miles and its getting harder to get in to 1st,it has always made a noise from 1st-2nd

The gear ratios are different but they will still fit,If you get the code from the bottom of the gearbox bellhousing you can check what the ratios are and then find one to match.A big block Mk2 box will also fit so it won't be difficult to find one.Look on gear ratio guide on technical

If it's getting hard to get it into 1st and crunches going from 1st to 2nd, it could just be the linkages from the gear lever to the gearbox that need looking at. There is a kit with new bushes etc available to fix it here. Much cheaper and easier than fitting a new gearbox!

thanks for the replys,i have done the linkage bushes before,they are ok,i was going to fit a new clutch so i was going to fit a gearbox at the same time (or i should just leave it ?)

change the gearbox oil,use 75w90 semi synthetic,cures 75% of problems  :wink:

just had a look in the manual and it said

fluid capacity

total (from dry) 6 litres
service (drain and refill) 3 litres

how do you get the other 3 litres out ? or is there only 3 litres in there,6 litres is a lot for a gearbox !!!! will do the oil tomorrow

thats a auto box,manual 5 speed 2 litres from totally empty (drain plug on bottom,filler on side )
