gti alloys on a driver

hi, i'd like to put some mk1 gti alloys on a mk1 driver as the current rims r rusting away and look awful. Will the standard driver wheels b 5.5J? if theyre not is it possible without buying a new set of tyres? thanks.

GTI Alloys (at least, the 9 spokes) seem to have a price of ?10/wheel, which includes a tyre of questionable wear and quality. The biggest factor is probably how far away the wheels are, they are probably too heavy to post and you'll be collecting them. Or, you could wait for a show (spring now?) and the usual VW breakers always seem to have them.

There will be no problem running 5.5J wheels on a Driver.

so the tyres currently on the driver would fit the new alloys if they didnt come with tyres..just to double check

Slight stretch but you should be okay. What size are they? http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html says that even as skinny as 145/80R13 is okay onto 5.5J13 rims. Are you running 155/80R13 tyres?

On 5" steels? Looks like someone's already done a tyre upgrade for you!

Yes, they'll fit. Makes your gearing a teeny bit taller, though. (And your car)!

The Driver came with 13 inch 5.5J steel wheels, which are the same size as the nine spoke alloys. The original fit tyres for both wheels was 175/70/13.
