gearstick socket

HI anyone know where i can get a new ball and socket for the base of my gear shift?

I think GPC do one and awesome have a neuspeed kit but at ?75 it seems a bit steep

where else can I get one and can I just get the plastic parts and rebuild it or do I have to have to whole thing?

Cheers

VW do the whole assembly for about ?30. I can't recall if GSF or ECP do them also but have a look around.

Worth buying the circlip too the holds the spring on above the lever bearing plate (Thats what the ball/sockets called!) as may not hold it's shape when you put it back on and will keep sliding up the gear stick (You'll know coz you'll push the gear lever through the floor when going for reverse, I did anyway!

I got my kit from GSF and everything fitted well. The part numbers on my receipts are
171-798-200, gear link rep kit @ ?15.86 inc VAT
 and
171-798-211, gearshift link bush kit @?4.99 inc VAT

All the relevant parts were included, circlip as well and it all went together in no time. Ramps or a lift are a big bonus!!

PS make sure the circlip is tight or the lever will drop through the floor!!!

Hope this helps

Dano, did your kit include the lever bearing plate in that price? (the ball and socket?!) Apart from the price being much higher that I paid to VW, I spoke to GSF a number of times and they were 100% certain they didn't sell it, which is why I went to VW!

Crikey…this is getting a bit technical  "lever bearing plate". I don't recall any plates being included in the packets, all that seemed to be included were an assortment of plastic/rubber gromets etc.
No plates as far as I can remember, sorry I can't be any more help. :dontknow:

No worries dano - it's the ball/socket joint at bottom of gear lever I'm referring to. Guess maybe it is only vw part?
