What a bummer Been hot in Rotherham? . I would turn the box over by hand a few times in all gears with the front wheels in the air , then drop the oil and see what comes out . Don't be tempted to split the box bits will fly unless it's on the bench , the magnet bit well worth trying first .

As you will have realised, gearbox oil is pretty thick (as in viscous – not like my bruvver) and this may help trap the screw where it shouldn't. If it doesn't come out with the oil, you could try filling the box again with (thin) flushing oil (can we still get that stuff ?) or even paraffin and then tip that out, hopefully bringing the screw with it. The latter idea helped get the extra tooth that I didn't even know was there out of my Elfie's busted Gearbox.
