Should fit, its just possible your car has 100mm driveshaft flanges though, the ACD was used in 1983 GTI so will have 90mm flanges.

codes

Is the tranmission code next to the engine code on the sticker inside the boot.If it is,the engine code is dx and transmission code is acd, according to this sticker!

the 87 gti came with an early pre digifant mk2 engine, essentially the same but with 100mm diff and some other little changes like hydraulic tappets.

if that gearbox is off an earlier mk1 then it wont fit, if its off a  mk2 then it should

what does it mean?

Sorry to sound stupid, but mechanically im two scales down on the evolutionary ladder to a cabbage!
All i know is in the boot what this sticker says dx engine, acd transmission.
Can i check this on the existing gearbox in the car and were do i look?
are you just saying the gearbox could be a acd,but early ones have 90mm flanges and later ones 100mm(whatever flanges are??)
thanks pool of knowledge.

im no pool of knowledge m8 others on here have that claim
if your sticker in the boot says acd then acd it should be, tis easy enough to check measure the diameter of the the flange on the diff, where the inner cv meets the gbox

Code is usually stamped on a plate on the bottom of the bellhousing (round bit that is the lowest point of the gearbox where it joins the engine)  ACD would be a correct code for your year/model of car.  Unfamiliar with that particular box so couldn't say flange diam.

Get a tape measure out and measure the diameter of the two flanges that stick out of the box - compare existing with theone you have bout - if they are the same then it will fit.

ACD should be 100mm, but flanges are interchangeable.

I'm now scratching my head because one of my GTIs has an ACD box, and its a 1983 model. Maybe someone's done a conversion and swapped my flanges; or swapped to cabby driveshafts as part of the job.
