Gearbox timing cover

Was going to set the timing up this afternoon… had a look and noticed the cover on the gearbox to check the timing mark is missing!  

don't think there was anything complete on this car when I brought it!

question is… could there have been any damage done while this is missing? No water has got in since I've had the car but don't know how long it's been missing! drove well though, clutch didn't slip and went in gear pretty well

The little cover on my MK1 was removed a loooonnnggggg time ago by a Garage, who told me to run it without it. Not had any probs since as well so can't do much anyway. ?!??!?!

Ah.. that's reassuring thanks Turbtechnics!

I will probably get one anyway at some point as apart from a stripped out rear (for now) I want it as complete as possible!
