Gearbox Refburbishment needed - reccomendations please :-)

Hi all,

I have just removed the gearbox from my 1983 Tintop 1.8 8v GTI. It basically got old, is leaking and after re setting linkage not long ago has gone like spaghetti again lol.

Im looking to have the box reconditioned so it is like new.

Im based in gloucestershire area and I am not far from the M5 Junction 10 so can travel if need be.

No one at all knows of anyone who profesionally re furbs gear boxes?...

Its something which is location-specific. Gearboxes are heavy items, so you'd not really want to send it from one end of the country to another for a refurb. I'm not in Gloucestershire and no doubt, neither are many other forum users who have read this post. Also, how many people have realistically had a gearbox reconditioned? Not that many, to base recommendations from.

Have you tried Yellow Pages?

I googled it for my area and it came up with a few options but then went to a classic car show and asked about and a few of the lads came up with a company nearby.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was just worrying as didnt hear anything for a while, its my daily runner so would be stuffed otherwise (tho ive temporarily had another put in i think from a cabriolet) but still, it doesnt have reverse lol
