gearbox flange

hi guys, i recently put a mk2 1.8 8v gearbox in my mk1 but came across the probs of flange size 90 100mm so i swaped the iner cv joint to suit, but i just read the gearbox threads and found i can change the flanges, do they pop out or do ya strip the box many thanks mike :)

Yes they come off with out stripping the box,but you will need a puller for the  job, :dontknow:

Had mine off to change seals, theres a big FO spring behind them that makes them fly off. No idea by Haynes book of lies think you need a puller. It's the devils own job getting them back. I did mine oin the bench, wouldn't like to have to do it on the car.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

you need to make a tool to put them back in, long M10 bolt with a plate across it so when you screw the bolt it pushes the flange back on, you just re attach the circlip around the bolt/plate

box

i don't remember using a tool to r-assmble the flanges on my box, i just used a bar nd levered them down and then put the clips in.

i've got to change my box again in the next cople of months, so i'll do a how to change your bx flange thread for the tech area when i get round to it.

but this won't sort you out now, so be careful when removing as the springs do go flying!
