Gearbox code 9A - what car is it from??? HELP!!

All,
I'm hoping someone can help me here! I have a Mk1 1800 - Campaign. The gearbox has gon and needs to be either: replaced or rebuilt.

I went down the first option and tried to get a box from VEGE. They do NOT recognise the gearbox code: 9A

Right, since the box is in good shape I went the 2nd option and contacted 2 "experts": TSR and C&R for quotes on rebuild. Now both have told me independentlly that the gearbox code 9A is for a Corrado 16V!!

I'm really confused and a little pi$%ed off - does anyone out there know for sure what 9A on the box signifies? Is it for a Campaign?

Cheers
Dave

See (from archieves)

VW 020 5-Speed Transaxle Ratio Chart

The 7G was used in early 1800 DXs, then 9A with slightly different ratios in later ones and Campaigns. The 7G has the correct MFA switch fitted.

Be aware 9A is also an engine block code that might be confusing the the so called experts.

Bassically all 020 rod change style g/boxs are the 'same' with different ratios and details (size of driveshaft flanges, reverse/MFA switches etc)

1983 Mars Red 1.8 Golf GTI
1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Cheers guys - have sent PM to crazyquiff - I'm 99% sure that the so called experts have got 9A muddles with engine code - mine is a Campaign and still has original 'box.

Thanks again
