Quick question can I use a o2j gear linkage on a o2a vr6 gear box ?

you can, but you need the shifter & cables to match. there are 3 types of MK4 shifter!
early MK4 shifter is pretty much the same as 02a, then there are 2 versions of the later type shifter which have a much better design of cable ends for less play.

the 2 late type shifters are interchangeable, you just have to swap the cable ends to match the gearbox shift tower/linkages you have
