gear linkage bush kit

Bought the gear linkage bush kit from GSF but I'm at a loss on where to start, does the Haynes manual detail what bushes go where?

Cheers. :?

I recently changed mine i started on top of the box taking off each moving part one at a time and changed the bushes as i came to them its not as scary as you might think its quite a basic system. Just take your time start at one end and work your way to the other.

The forward end of the shift rod where it joins into the Selector Lever is splined.

If you are replacing the Shift Rod bearing as included in some E-Bay listings (the red bit)
eg:

then put a small dab of white paint on the joint before breaking it leaving a dab of paint on each part so it goes back with the same orientation.. You may otherwise have to spend a fair amount of time re-aligning the gear lever.

hehe i did this. not to much of a problem to fix. stick the car in first and the gearstick were first should be and reconnect. helps if you have someone to hold the gearstick in the right place.

almost finished my bush change just got the ball and lower lever joint to do now. my hands are now black but the links and brackets are spotless.

if you do change the shift rod bush you will need to drill the rivets out and replace them. i intend to do this with bolts and nylock nuts to make it easier next time.

What about the Nylon Ball at the base of the shift… is this an easy and worthwhile change… I have a certain vagueness… it feels like it is in that ball and socket at the base?

HELP??? :dontknow:
