Gear linkage alignment

As some of u may know from my friend peddersgolf post i am having trouble with my gears on my mk1 golf, we have identified that it is the linkages that are the problem. Does anybody know how to setup the gear linkages correctly? Or is there anyone who could possibly fix the problem for me in the Manchester area? not expecting any freebies but jus hoping that somebody with more experience could help me out as this problem has never occured before.
Much thanks
Carl
p.s.
spoke to somebody who`s owned a few mk1s and from what i spoke about with him about my problem i am led to understand that the ratios of the gears in the mk1 gearbox are very close and this is what i think is playin a part in my problem as it seems when i select 1st it is going into third which leads me to think it is the alignment and setup of the linkages that is the problem i understand there is a tool u can get for this but would prefer for someone who knows how to point me either in the direction of somewhere i can take my car to sort the problem or ideally for someone to possibly offer there services obviously not for free just struggling to solve problem myself and due to work commitments don`t have much time.
Again much thanks for any assistance or advice that can be offered!

I think the main problem you have is with the linkage bushes rather than alignment.

There pretty easy to change.

Ok well you're free to pop over and I can look at it, PM me and I'll give you details etc…. I assume you can more/less drive the car?
