Gear change 1st & 2nd

Hi guys, i am having problems with my lovely mk1 golf.
Its a 1.8 gti. I am having really trouble getting the car into 1st and 2nd gear. To get it into these gears i need to keep giggling the gear stick and then it will go in but it feels very tight and i have to use a lot of force.
I have chnaged the gear linkgae bushes and i have just had a new clutch and clutch cable.

any ideas??

sounds like the the linkages are not adjusted correctly it makes it very hard to get in gears when there slightly out

Did you change the bushes on the Gearshift.

Baz Ok i have changed the bushes on the shifter (the 2 inbetween the rod right?)

Paul if i need to adjust the linkage how hard is this?

yeh thats the ones - sorry cant really be of anymore help - i was struggiling for first gear untill i changed these bushes - now fine
