GEAR BOX PROBLEMS
HAY PEOPLE, CAN ANYBODY HELP ME? I HAVE JST BOUGHT A MK1 GOLF GTI ON A 83 Y REG, AS I WAS DRIVING IT BACK SOME LITTLE KID RAMED IN TO THE BACK OF IT. LUCKALY THE DAMAGE WAS NOT 2 BAD I GOT THE CAR HOME AND WENT TO PUT IT INTO MY DRIVE AND IT GOT SUCH IN GEAR. THE GEAR STICK IS STILL FREE BUT ITS STILL SUCH IN GEAR. DOES ANY1 NOW HOW I CAN FREE THE GEAR OR DO I NEED A NEW GEAR BOX?

its probably the shifter rods the ends are made of plastic and tend to break when they get old.

Sorry to hear you got rear ended :cry:
Get someone to move the shifter inside the car while you watch the gear linkage. It should be fairly obvious where the break in the linkage is. Check you can still get the gears at the gearbox end by shifting it by hand.
Also no caps please as it is considered shouting.

I got stuck in 3rd one day and had to drive 15 miles home!
All that happened was the that linkage had pulled out of the selector on the back of the gearbox. Don't worry, its not the end of the world - just means lying under the car for a bit!
