Front wheel alignment

I have just replaced the front shock absorbers and springs on my 1986 Cabriolet GTi with a Spax suspension kit, lowering by 40mm. I am getting the camber / alignment done tomorrow, but just wondered if the toe angle should be affected by fitting the new components - the offside front wheel in particular is visibly pointing outwards (longitudinally) - ie steering right. The nearside one looks OK. The steering wheel when driving straight ahead is now steering about 30 degrees left. One of the old front shock absorbers appeared to have emptied all its oil into the strut and one of the rear springs was cracked, so maybe the suspension had previously been adjusted to compensate for these. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't worry about it mate. It will always need adjusting if you change wheel size or suspension. Just try not to drive too far as the bad alignment is dangerous and will cause dramatic tyre wear too.

The alignment is adjusted from one side only, can't remember which side though.

Thanks Tian - I'm going to take it slowly to the garage!
