Front suspension

Hi there, It appears that my front damper needs replacing, problem is the strut appears to be a sealed unit so I can't simply replace the insert??  The only place I've been able to find that sells the strut complete with damper is the VW dealer but there ?80!!!  Does anyone know where I can get one a bit cheaper than that?  Can I get a strut which is not sealed off a Mk2, replace the damper and fit that??

alrite mate if u buy up rated shocks u get the complet shock not just the insert....ie koni, avo,

Casings are not hard to come by. I've got an old pair, but they are a bit rusty. See if GSF sell new non sealed strut units.

Thanks for the response guys.  I'm looking to sell the car in the near future so dont really want to shell out on uprated shocks.  Looking to do things as cheap as possible.  I've spoke with GSF and they only do inserts.

I forgot to say that the cars a MK1 Sportline.  I was wondering if I could find a MK2 unsealed strut in a scrappy could i replace the insert and use that?  I was wondering because MK2's are easier to come by than MK1 Cabbys.

Don't suppose anyone on here has 1 they'd like to sell?

The mk2 stuff isn't interchangeable.
