front hub, how do you get it off?

I snapped two wheel bolt in the front hub a while ago…I bought a new hub the other day but i cant get the old one off…

I've took the brakes, discks off but the hub will not budge!

I take it you gotta undo it with the nut holding it on in the middle!? but when i try and undo this it just turns the wheels even in gear!! i dont wanna damage the drive rod thingys by forcing it…

any help or tips!? dont wanna spend money on labour i'd rarther do it myself..+ satisfaction…

i found that the easy solution is to leave the road wheel fitted and with the help of a mate with foot on the brake, you should find you'll be able to remove it with the aid of a breaker bar, or a welded up rachet and a scafold pole. might even try to aid this with the help of a little heat.

You will have to have the  front hub pressed out with a press at your local garage [5ton] and renew the wheel bearing at the same time as hub renewal means destroyed bearing , your Haynes manual describes the procedure . Stick your "steel" wheel on using the remaining studs , have one helper press the brake and use the weight of the car plus the helper on the brake to assist you in removing the hub nut , i use a 3/4 ratchet and extend it with my trolley jack handle to give leaverage .

Hopefully the only labour charge will be at your local? garage using the press . Don't forget you will also need to have camber checked on assembly unless you mark the top adjusting bolt .
Easy job but read the Haynes manual first  ….Cheers …….

Removing the hub from the car doesn't destroy the bearing (but if you press the bearing out of the hub, I wouldn't try to re-use it in another hub).

The hub-bolt in the centre can be opened by any friendly garage with an air-wrench but, to finish off the job, it needs to be tightened to 239 Ft-Lbs, so you should use a new bolt, and get the garage to tighten it for you.

Yup - you really want to be changing the hub nut.  I've had both of mine off in the last couple of weeks - just got a long breaker bar with a big socket on the end and jumped up and down on it until it started to come loose.  You need to do this with the car on its wheels (take out the plastic over from the centre of the wheel) otherwise it'll just turn.

I took the whole hub off mine because I was changing a wheel bearing.

Actually, if all you did was snap off two wheel nuts.  Just remove the road wheel and drill out the snapped off bits of nuts - no need to disassemble it any more than that (if you are anygood with a drill that is)

You must mean : "I would NOT try to re-use it in another hub" How do you support the bearing center while pressing out the old hub ? Renew the bearing if you press out the hub or it will fail .
