Front Geometry

Does anyone have some good fast road settings for the front?  Is standard best, or would a touch more camber help?

I'm not running adjustable topmounts so nothing extreme.

Cheers.

Stock settings are approx 0.0-0.5° negative camber and 0.5-1.0° toe out. A decent setup might be 1-1.5° camber and 0.5-1.0° toe in.

I assume that is 1-1.5 positive camber?

No, negative. I don't think you'll achieve that much positive camber with the way its adjusted.

Blimey, that was quick.  I was just about to edit +ve for -ve, and you've already pointed out how stupid I was.

Thanks

Hi Guys.
I have recently fitted some Bilstein B6 on my Mk1 Gti, and was wondering how to go about setting the camber better?

I was wondering whether you guys would be able to help as you seem in the know? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Neil

Camber is adjusted using the eccentric bolts and washers on the hub carrier-strut.

Cheers for the super fast reply.

Is this set using a vernier protractor off the suspension leg to the hub?

Thanks
Neil

It's a lot easier to pay £30 for a laser alignment.  You will need to specify the settings though.  The standard settings are a bit gay.

Yeah, not far off.  Mine has a bit less than a degree of -ve each side as I didn't want to rip through the tires.  It has made a world of difference.  The standard settings for a GTi on the alignment machine had +ve camber!

I'm not sure about all this, Autodata recommend 0.5 - 3.0 mm toe out with the optimum being 1.8mm. They don't specify camber. Haynes in both the Mk1 Golf and the Scirocco manual recommend a camber angle of 20' pos, + or - 20'. I've always followed this and the tyres have worn evenly, is this now wrong, if it is, what are the advantages of altering it?
