Front Brakes Siezed?

I just Bought a 1.3 driver that has been sitting for a few years and the front brakes are seized and i was just wondering the best way to get them working again.

Any help would be much appreciated

Best bet is to get the front wheels off and try and free off the caliper. You will almost certainly need new discs and pads if its been sitting for a while. As the corrosion on the disc will be very deep around where the pads have been sitting.

If its running you could try driving it maybe, to free them off, but I you'll probably do more damage.

i have taken the wheels off and pushed the pistons back in, but when got it all back together and moved it they have siezed again. hopeing i could get away without replacing them but think i might have to, unless you have any other ideas?

If they've been freed and have seized again, I'd say its pretty sure the bores have corroded, and/or the seals are shot. So either rebuild the calipers or replace them with refurbished ones. Its one of them things you don't want to take a short cut on, isn't it?

i would take the opportunity to fit mk1 1.5-1.8 VWII setup, they all use the same calipers and carriers (except the really early models which look similar your old ones)

then you can fit mk1 gti vented discs and pads. which is a nice upgrade and you'll probably get the parts cheaper than 1.3 stuff since they're more common!

carriers you need MK1/cabby/rocco 1.5-1.8 or MK3 polo, calipers can be had from a wide rtange of VW/SEAT models right up to the 2000 polo/ibiza! just be aware that the later ones may have banjo flexis so wont be ideal for you.

basically, anything with 239mm brakes with VWII cast/stamped into the caliper is what you need :)

see if your brake hoses are clear. may of corroded inside, only seen it a couple of times but it may be worth fitting new hoses anyway.

think you have to change the flexis when going VWII anyway, iirc the hose fittings for the early calipers are different? but yeah definitely change the flexis while you're there :)
