floppy gearstick

i changed all my linkages and pushes and can get all gears but whatever gear im in the gearstick level justs flops around ! any ideas anyone ? many thanks  jeff

Double checked everything is tight?  Have you changed the ball assembly at the base of the gearstick?

have you tightened the pinch bolt on the gearshaft?

checked all the bolts and they are tight the ball assembly at the base of the gear stick was changed to but maybe theres a part missing ? from underneath the car where the rubber protective boot is i can hold the long rod that runs from the gear lever to the front of the car and move it side to side cant see anything from underneath that should the gear lever in place it just moves around should there be a rubber ball or something to hold it firm ?  :dontknow:

All gear linkage bits are readily available from Crazyquiff, GSF, VW and other good retailers

there are a copuple plastic sleeves between the stick and the rod to the front of the car, if missing/worn they'll cause this
