FK Coilover trouble!

I've recently put some 13x8 RSL wheels on my mk1 and i tryed to lower the FK coilovers which have been on the car for just under a year but they wouldnt budge. I've adjusted them before and they were fine. I tried and tried to no avail so i took the car to my local garage, they compressed the springs and even they couldnt do it, they said the only way to do it was to take all the shocks off and cut the adjusting bits off, but I've got to find those bits first to replace them, its all going to be so expensive. Any ideas? James

This seems to be a problem with the corroding effect between the rings and the threaded strut body. FK's don't seem very rust resistant at all. Mine look a mess after less than a year of being on. How about removing the units and 'bathing' the affected area in thread releasing fluid for a day or so ??   :dontknow:

Not to be rude but u cant of looked after them . the can of spray is cleaner not protective spray . id take them off and try heating the adjuster ring gently and soak it in wd40 . in future soak them in clear waxoyl before the wheels go back on . it dont look nice but when i wash mine off they are brand new under neath .

Read an article in Performance VW about FK's [produced by the editorial team].

Not impressed by the quality by all accounts and prone to siezing especially on the threads . Lubricate them or buy a better product .

There is nothing wrong with the product they are made by koni . its the people who buy them. would u leave ur wing bare metal and then moan when it rusted . or polished wheels coverd in brake dust - no i think not.
as for the editorial team of pvw , that was the same idiot who recently tried to roll his arches with a beer can and a bread knife , no im not joking , the muppet should stick to wearing pink jumpers and worrying about his hair do .

I take offence at your comments. I followed the FK instructions and used their wax spray yet there are still signs of corrossion on the units.

can u read ? who told u the can was protector spray ??? Its not its cleaner .   the only instructions in mine were in german so i foned my mate , who happens to be one of the main importers of fk in the uk , and he told me what the product did .

I dont know why u take offense , its only common sense and logic that dictates a bare metal surface should be looked after .

Indeed I can read and I can also spell, unlike you.

Quick lesson for you….

"Foned" should be spelt….PHONED….Ok with that then ?…got it ???
Right…next one…."offense" should be spelt….OFFENCE. I'm guessing you're getting a little confused, putting the 'S' in as with many words in the English Language they don't always follow the logical (ooh there's a new word for you) rule. Offensive (such as you) has an 'S' but offence has a 'C' . Is this where you are getting little muddled ??

Anyway, hopefully that little lesson wasn't too taxing for you.

Onto the next lesson and indeed it's the topic which was originally started by beatneckkid, who I believe was looking for help on this forum  and not criticism.

FK Highsport coilovers are not made by Koni. I think you are once again getting confused. FK do a version called the 'Konig Sport' and they have Koni inserts. I realise now that words are not your strong point but I'm hoping you can spot the name KONI in amongst those letters.

Right, I appreciate this is all very taxing for you but we're almost at the end now. The aerosol spray supplied by FK is for liberally coating the damper units. This is why it has a sticky/waxy consistancy. Therefore it's not exactly suitable for cleaning is it.

Why would FK supply cleaner with there units ?? It is protector !
Here is a link to Gwent VW's site, which clearly states this.

http://www.gwentvw.co.uk/product_info.php/cPath/39_235_246_256_257_398_411_414/products_id/330

Oh, and isn't it interesting that they put a kind of waiver in their description that states regular use of the spray to help resist corrosion. They are also described as being Zinc plated, which in case you didn't know is said to be a proven way of resisting rust, yet despite this they still rust. It looks like me and beatneckkid are not the only ones who have had issues with rusting now is it. The FK's are very susceptible (sorry,I know that's tough one) to corrosion which takes us full circle, back to the start of the story.

Hopefully you will take these lessons on board. This is a forum, designed for people to swap stories, gather knowledge and receive help from fellow contributors/club members. It is not set up for people to verbally abuse other contributors, though I have to admit I've enjoyed doing it in response to your mistake ridden drivel.
