Fit a mk3 diesel automatic gearbox.

I wrecked my original automatic gearbox the other day. Since i've been thinking about a mk3 tdi conversion for a long time, now would be the best time to do it. But, the "problem" is i would like to keep the car an automatic. Since my search on the net didn't reveal any solutions, i would like to try it here.

Which newer diesel automatic gearbox fits in a Mk1? if it fits, are there any modifications neccesary to make it fit? Can i keep my original gear lever? As i would like to keep the car's interior as originaly as possible.

And finally, how much hp/torque can this gearbox handle?

I looked into it and basically the Mk3 and onwards auto boxes don't fit, and it would be a nightmare trying to adapt everything to make it work out. Stick with Mk1 and Mk2 (they're the same) auto boxes.

I only doubt if a mk2 gearbox is able to handle the hp/torque of a tuned diesel (aprox 150-170 hp). Also, there seems to be no difference between a diesel or petrol gearbox ratio. Won't it be loud/noisy at 120-140 km/h?
