FIFTH gear issues!!!

After buyin my first classic VW today, the 1.8 clipper cab.  I found that on the way home it kept popping out of fifth and i had to hold it in for it to stay there.  I phoned the guy i got it from and he said its a common thing you just need to push it right up which i was anyway.  To cut a long story short i wanted my money back which didnt happen and im now stuck with the problem.

I have had a mechanic friend check it out and he found the brake servo was sat on the linkage and not even bolted through the bulk headed, also there was some box oil coming from somewhere.

I have managed to get servo bolted back so it clears the linkage and im going to try to check the oil level tomrrow.

can anybody help me on how to change the oil and any other possible causes for it popping out?

this happens if gearbox oil is low, it will eventually die so get it sorted asap:
