Electric Power Steering Mk2Mania kit - Anyone fitted it?

Im interested to hear peoples experience of fitting the electric power steering kit from Mk2Mania. I was considering rebuild my current rack with the Quaiffe 2.9 quickrack and fitting power steering. Any thoughts?

Its what i had planned for mine before i abandoned the project, (did buy both parts but never used them), think you do need the quick rack parts.

So what was the consensus on the mk2mania kit as I'm considering taking the plunge and ordering one for a winter project.

Anyone done the install themselves, or any comments on feel versus the money.
Having read the cover article in this months PVW I'm having bad thoughts about a 2.0 TFSI install with OEM setup from a mk6 gti… As that may e a few years away on my time/mod list I'd like to consider options.

I've not got any further with it, was leaving it until the winter before I attempt it.

Ok if anyone has any experience of either installing one of their kits or living with the experience I'd be keen to know how it feels.
E.g. Can you toggle the motor off/on for parking and then resort to normal setup for at speed driving?
If you can't is there any loss of steering response or vagueness / problem self centering?

Thanks in advance… I've seen the threads about the corsa motor and the retro fit of the toyota rack… And I'd like to weigh up options.

corsa kit

i realy did not want to get involved with this topic again having been down this road before
i was the first one to get a corsa kit from mk2 mainia as he used my car for making it
he's a good bloke at it as he makes them for escorts that his friends rally he says
as for fitting take your old steering column off refit corsa conversion bolted to original bolts
plus wire it up,a little bit more involved than that but basically you can do it in a day
as for driving it people have mixed feelings some say it does not recentre all the way, some say a bit vauge
on centre you can set the level of assist you want it will be the same assist at all speeds it does not vary like
the original power setup,i have had mine on for going on for 2 years would i go back to strugling to park
no,i made a few myself for friends all very pleased with the setup they say it transforms the car,the choice is yours,if you serch through the old forums you will find the topic as been covered before

I've made my mind up that I'm gong to buy two of their kits for a deal… My mate and I will do the install on two cars in a day.

Thanks for the feedback, are you able to toggle / switch it off/on. I quite like the steering response whilst driving its the parking that I can't get on with.

Fitted the CrazyQuiff version to the wife's Sportline.
Not too bad to fit, but tight with the cabby knee bar though.
First drive was not a good one :-(
The auto centre was completely cancelled out, so coming off a roudabout made for some interesting wheel turning !!

The problem is that the steering does not know your engine speed or road speed, the little box that comes with the kit fakes both of those signals. The engine rev speed is fine to fake, it is a safety one, ie don't try and power the steering if the engine is not running because it takes lots of current. The other one though is what the pot controls and gives a crude faking of the road speed.
That box is actually just a dual 555 timer, about £3 in parts, so don't pay 100's for it - I have the circuit diagram and frequencies required somewhere.

So not happy I went searching for a solution. There is a guy who runs RJES over in Cheadle, he tackled this problem several years ago on T4 vans. He had a programmable module made that allows you to control the signal as the factory intended. We fitted an extra speed sensor to the speedo. It's great the car now behaves as intended !!

Mk2mania aka easystear in Bolton. Just picked mine up from Rick Monday, great bloke very obliging. Had one of these fitted by him before. Quality job, and would not go back to none pas. Good value I thought….fitted for £650. No issues with steering wheel centering at all. If anyone wants to check it out on mine first. I live in Leeds….give me a shout.
