EBC green sports

What can people tell me about the EBC green sports disc pads? Is anyone using them?
There is a very limited range of aftermarket disc pads available in Australia for Mk 1 Golf's, and I am currently using some apparently lower quality ones. I have been told that the EBC green sports pads are available here.
Anyone know how they compare with genuine VW ones?

i have heard they are the dogs danglies but quite expensive :dontknow: better braking but sacrifice longetivity. check they are compatible with your disks too mate i.e depth. they sell over here for about ?30.00 and if you are stuck could probably get you a link for some that would deliver. im only going on what i have heard though as i have never had them :dontknow:

Thanks for that. The reason I asked is that I can get them here.
From what I understand the correlation to quicker stopping is more dust, noise and quicker wear of rotors. I am assuming this is what you meant about "sacrifice longevity".
Of course no-one has been able to quantify for me how much dust and how quickly the rotors wear, so I'll have to try it and see. It'd be terrible if I had to compare EBC Greenstuff pads with Pagid Fast Road pads - how would I decide? :dontknow:  lack of choice may be better in this instance.

I heard that the EBC pads produce less brake 'dust' but do wear quicker

there's 3 types.

Green = more road use, improved stopping
Yellow = sort of a fast road use/track pad
Red = mainly designed for track use which means if you use these puppy's you'll get whip lash and a nose bleed

I've just checked the EBC website and the link to the Subaru forum. Reads like they had significant problems with super-quick wear of pads and rotors in the past and EBC now claim to have reformulted the material and fixed the problems.:?  I'm getting cold feet about them, so might keep looking for some better performing street pads. uch:  Might even import a set of Pagid Fast Roads.

i use Ferodo ds2500 they are a little harder on disks than standard pads but i noticed a big improvement in braking over the standard pads

I understand that is the trade-off: better stopping = wear of the rotors. Matter of finding the balance that best suits the driving style. :?

One of the options available are the ferodo ds2500. I've been told that they squeal and grumble - what's your experience?

i use standard disks with no problems they do have grooves machined in them but don't think it's required !!

as for squeaks i have never noticed anything !!

i would say that before braking hard when starting a journey get the disks warmed up so they get too hot too quickly !

if you use the car as fast road you may require better disks but due to cost and it being used as a daily runner i stuck with standard and they are fine !

very Interesting. From what I gather, I need to match my driving style and the pads. For example, race pads will stop the car quickest, but if they are not hot will wear the discs quickly. Daily driving will not warm them sufficiently. Whereas road pads will not cut it in sustained hot use such as on the track. An engineer told me that what one does in upgrading brakes is invest in thermal reserve.

Ferodo ds2500 rate as a very good cross-over pad for both road and light track use. Question is whether my early, light braking pattern will keep them warm - might have to learn to be more aggressive and later in my braking.  :mrgreen: Could be problematic for the weekend jaunt in the old beetle though!

so, now tossup between Pagid Fast Road & Ferodo ds2500
