Easy diy differential flange removal tool

Hi all

As part of my taking-forever-to-do clutch swap I replaced all the seals in the gearbox using one of them there kits you can get from ebay (Fasttrack Bearings).

As you may be aware, the two output flanges (which connect to the driveshafts) are spring loaded and retained with a collar and circlip.  The flanges have to be 'pressed down' with a special tool like the home-made one at http://www.brokevw.com/020flange.html.

Well, here's an even easier to make tool which will do the job - the pic says it all, but essentially once you've screwed the bolt in to the output shaft, use the nut to compress the flange and then you can extract the circlip.  Btw, the bolt and nut I used is one from the gearbox mounting so you'll have that handy too. :D

Hope this helps someone! :D

mine's a green 1.8 GTI '83
