Drums to discs
I have a GX with drums on rear and possibly thinking about fitting a whole new GTi rear axle with discs how much work is involved. Is it just a case of switching rear axles and different hoses to fit to calipers or isit going to be much more work than that

you need hubs, discs, calipers&carriers, hoses, and scircco hand brake cables mate - do a search on here - theres loadsa info. It is pretty much a bolt on job, but whether it is a worth while mod is a hotly debated topic, personally I wouldnt bother unless you like the back end to step out under heavy braking!

I'd just fit the roll bar from a GTI/rocco on your old beam and leave it at that, no real advantage switching to rear discs on your average daily driver

Unless your planning on increasing the power of the car and need alittle extra stopping power I wouldn't bother. Spend your dollar on something more worthwhile

There is a possibility that i am acquiring a rear beam all polybushed with hubs, discs, carriers and calipers and hopefully one day may well be converting engine to a quicker one when i have finished everything else and would also like the look of discs on the rear. Also will need to be looking at new brake lines (mot advisory last year) in near future so could do this all at the same time
So really what else is needed to do this conversion and if need many bits then will leave as they are and replace just the lines.

if youre getting a beam with it all on there for a good price then go for it, does your car have a rear bias valve in front of the beam?

discs are nicer from a maintenance point of view and look better so go ahead and fit, but as stated if you do not do it properly the rear will be overbraked and may step out when you dont really want it to.

Absolutely, make sure your car has a rear brake compensator fitted. If it hasnt, then when u slam the anchors on,the back will lock up and overtake the front!

as above, roccos have these as well. technically you should fit scirocco 16v ones as they're designed for discs rather thasn drums, but the bog std cab ones seem to work just as well
