Tom,

I'm running EBC Greensuff pads and OMP Grooved discs, they have improved braking a lot, no extra noise and work well from cold.

Had a bit of an issue last week with a bit of fade but that was after a particularly hard blast across the Snake Pass to Sheffield.  Everything soon settled back down though!

Good luck!

Jamie

i've used zimmerman x drilled with pagid fast road pads. very good.
i wouldn't worry too much about grooved or drilled discs unless you are going to be doing trckdays, or drive on the roads like you are doing track days.
good quality plain discs tend to be better than cheap drilled and/or grooved discs. i'd recommend the pagid fast road pads for good road use. very good from cold too.

cheers wooders!

so plain disks with some uprated pads give decent breaking for average road driving,  cool.

best get looking for best prices 8)

it's a compromise. the idea of drilled discs is to relieve the gas build up between disc and pad. this only really makes a difference if you are caining the brakes. grooved discs will do the same job and 'supposedly' cut the pad surface to clear dust build up. it also a better cooling property having holes or grooves.
on the counter to that, you lose discs surface, so the pads have less friction to brake with. so unless you are the sort to thrash the nuts out of your brakes, drilled or grooved discs are not neccessary.

yes, for average roads, plain discs (worth paying for good ones) and good pads.
genuine vw discs and pads are very good too.

were did you get your pagid fast road pads from? and what did you pay?

or do you know of any good places to get braking componets from?

i had a quick look and saw them here looked resonable prices too, are they the same ones http://www.gti-bits.co.uk/golf-gti-sports-parts.htm , scroll down a bit.

thanks for the info!!

Camel,

I'm pretty sure that GSF are now doing the Pagid fast roads, I seem to remember that when I was buying my Greenstuff pads they mentioned it, cant remember the reason for not getting them though??

Worth a try, probably going to be cheaper than most places.

gsf, volkspares and eurocarparts are all worth a try. the price you have does not seem bad though. try vw and see what they want for genuine parts.

Plain old Ate pads and vented discs for me and they work perfectley, mind you mine is a left hooker, so pedal is right under the servo the way it should be!!!!  Spot on!

you could put cardboard discs and brillo pads on yours and it would still brake better than our RIGHT hand drives.

note the emphasis on RIGHT
