Diesel gearbox on mk1 2L 16V with 13'' wheels

I think the box on my golf is fairly short, especially running the 13''s
would a diesel box be a good upgrade do you think to even it all out… considering its a 2l its got a fair bit of grunt but im changing gear every other second…

Now engines im clued up but gearboxes im not… so was wondering what itd be like to use with a diesel box on it (rod shift if it makes a difference)
Im currently at about 4.5k - 5k revs at 70mph on the motorway so i usually have to sit at a much lower speed

Have no idea on derv g/box,s but look at the mk3 golf 8 valve gti box, about 23mph per 1000 revs in top gear and its a rod change unit so easy fitment, just need to change the 100mm d/shaft flanges.
