Curbing??

anybody had a go at fixing'curbing'?
today I sandblasted my 13" 9 spokes and they are looking loads better already, thing is one has got some curbing (which would explain the weeping tyre whilslt i was running them) any how can anyone advise on repairing curbing is it easy/ hard? should I do it myself or get someelse to do? i will prefer doing it myself but if it is a mission and a half maybe i'll give someone else the work :P
cheers

I take out the worst of it with my cheapo pretend Dremmel and I then use that plastic metal putty stuff you can buy. You know the stuff that looks like a sausage and you kneed it to mix the centre with the outside? It goes off really quickly and is ready for rubbing down after about 20 minutes. I use my Dremmel thingy to rough finish the filler and then use wet & dry.

Remember to use etch primer on bare alloy.

Just did a set of alloys last bank holiday. Took most of the curb marks out with 400grit wet and dry and loads of soapy water. Had to fill one small missing bit with Loctite 'Metal Set' (used for fixing alloy castings), then rubbed this smooth with more 400 grit. Just wrap the sandpaper round a block of wood and keep going at it until most of the marks have gone. It takes time, but is quite easy. I then used a couple of coats of spray filler/primer (the yellow stuff) to fill in the minor marks left, before rubbing the lot down with 1200 grit wet and dry (again, lots of soapy water), another couple of coats of grey primer (rubbed down with 1500 grit), then the top coats and clear lacquer. All curbing gone !

Trouble is I bought 'alloy wheel paint' in an aerosol and it's turned out too dark (bluey grey), so I'll be doing it again !   Have heard Porsche Artic Silver is a good alloy colour, so might go for that. Otherwise VW Diamond Silver (unless anyone knows a more suitable match for 'alloy wheel colour' ?). If you look at alloys on a silver car, the wheels look 'whiter' than the bodywork - hard to get an exact match…..

Good luck with it,

Mark

I wish i had the before pics cause they look so muchbetter already. this is the worst of the four
thing is if you look closely in the 8-9 o clock area the rim is out of shape slightly where the tyre used to weep a bit
has anyone had this similar problem and fixed it?
